Sebastian Gechert

Sebastian Gechert is Professor of Macroeconomics at Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany and an Associate Editor at the Journal of Economic Surveys. He is a frequent consultant to international institutions like the European Central Bank (ECB), the World Bank Group (WBG), the European Parliament as well as German federal and regional parliaments providing expertise on fiscal, monetary, and environmental policies. Sebastian is a member of the steering committee of the Forum for Macroeconomics and Macroeconomic Policies (FMM), which organizes the largest annual academic macroeconomics conference in Europe. He is also a member of the steering group of the Meta-Analysis in Economics (MAER) network.

His research and teaching focuses on the interplay between macroeconomic policies, consumer behavior, the environment and inequality. Sebastian has led several funded research projects, including from the European Macro Policy Network, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Hans-Böckler-Foundation. His work has been published in leading economic journals like the Journal of Monetary Economics, Review of Economic Dynamics and the European Economic Review.
