Dimitri Zurstrassen is a policy analyst and researcher specializing in EU industrial policy at the Luiss Hub for New Industrial Policy and Economic Governance (LUHNIP) in Rome, where he teaches “EU Industrial Policy in an Era of Geoeconomic Competition” at LUISS Guido Carli University. With a PhD from Sorbonne University and UCLouvain, Dimitri Zurstrassen brings historical perspective to contemporary policy challenges. His doctoral research examined European Commission interventions in strategic industries, providing insights into EU industrial strategy development.
His research expertise covers key periods of European integration, having contributed to major research projects including the European Commission’s institutional history project and the oral history of the European Court of Justice at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History (2017-2018). He co-edited “EU Industrial Policy in the Multipolar Economy” (Edward Elgar, 2022) and regularly publishes on EU industrial strategy, state aid policy, and geoeconomic competition. His analysis focuses on how Europe can maintain competitiveness amid strategic rivalry between the US, China, and other global powers.
His forthcoming book with Edward Elgar Publishing will provide policymakers with historical lessons and practical recommendations for strengthening European industrial competitiveness in today’s era of strategic competition.
