Eric Monnet is Professor of Economics at the EHESS and Paris School of Economics and currently a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute of Advanced Study) in Berlin. He holds a PhD in Economics from both EHESS and PSE. His research focuses on monetary economics, central banks, banking and financial crises, public debt, the international monetary system, and economic history. His recent publications include Balance of Power: Central Banks and the Fate of Democracies (University of Chicago Press, 2024), and articles in Economic Policy and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.
From 2013 to 2019, he was a Senior Economist at the Banque de France, working on macroeconomic forecasting and European affairs. He has also been a Bruegel fellow, CEPR research affiliate, and CEPII scientific advisor, and authored influential policy reports on the ECB, inflation, and sustainable central banking.
