Asker Voldsgaard

Director

Copenhagen, Denmark

Asker Voldsgaard is the Director and Founder of Center for Makrofinans. His work focuses on the political economy of mobilising and coordinating enough investments to undertake rapid energy systems change and reap the societal benefits of green electrification and green industrial policy. This entails critical analysis of institutionalised ideas and approaches in policy making relating to energy and climate policy, industrial policy, fiscal policy, and public finance.

Prior to leading the Center for Makrofinans, Asker served as a Senior Analyst at the Danish Council on Climate Change’s section for energy, industry and transport analysis. He lead a project on climate-related research and innovation and contributed to analyses of Denmark’s global climate footprints and long-term mitigation scenarios towards 2050.

Asker’s background bridges high-level academic research and practical policy experience. He holds a PhD in Innovation and Public Policy from University College London (UCL), supervised by Prof. Mariana Mazzucato, concerning the relationship between green investments and technological innovation. Before then, he has worked in the Danish Parliament, Denmark’s EU representation, Denmark’s Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, and led the analytical work of UCL’s contributions to the Vatican’s COVID-19 Commission. He is a regular contributor to the public debate in Denmark on economic, energy, and climate policy issues.
