Janek Steitz is Director and Deputy Chairman at Dezernat Zukunft – Institute for Macrofinance, a Berlin-based think tank rethinking monetary, fiscal and economic policy. He leads Dezernat’s climate and energy team.
Before joining Dezernat Zukunft, Janek worked at Agora Energiewende, a global climate and energy think tank, where he focused on the economic and financial dimensions of the energy transition. In this role, he led various influential research projects and policy dialogues and was a driving force of the institutions pivot to address economic implications of the energy transition more prominently.
Earlier in his career, Janek advised investors and philanthropists on how to include climate considerations into their investment strategies. He started his career as an analyst in EY’s transaction advisory services, where he worked primarily on energy infrastructure deals.
At Dezernat Zukunft, Janek leads research at the intersection of climate, energy and macro policy. His work informs national and EU-level debates on investment needs, green fiscal strategies and public-private financing mechanisms, among others.
He studied at the University of Münster and HHL Leipzig School of Management and holds degrees in economics and management.
