Dimitri Zurstrassen is Research Lead in Industrial and Innovation Policy at the European Macro Policy Network, where he runs the EMPN project “Engineering Technology Leadership”.

He holds a PhD in Contemporary History from UCLouvain and Sorbonne University on the evolution of EU industrial policy (1974–2002), with prior research posts at the European University Institute, Bocconi University, the University of Glasgow and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Theory. He co-edited EU Industrial Policy in the Multipolar Economy (Edward Elgar, 2022) and is completing EU Industrial Policy: Between Intervention and the Market, 1951–2026 (Edward Elgar, 2027), alongside peer-reviewed articles in leading journals.

He is also a fellow economist at the European Commission’s DG GROW, and holds affiliations with LUHNIP, an EMPN partner institution, as well as the Global Trade Policy Observatory and the Université libre de Bruxelles.
