Jens van ’t Klooster

Jens van ’t Klooster is an Associate Professor for Political Economy at the University of Amsterdam’s Department of Political Science. He has a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge and in Economic Policy from the University of Groningen.

Jens is a political economist with extensive experience in research and advocacy on monetary and financial policy. In a 2020 report, he put forward a policy proposal for greening central bank credit operations (“green TLTROs”). Jens has also published on the use of net zero transition plans in banking supervision, the interpretation of the ECB mandate, in particular its neglected secondary mandate as well as on EP accountability practices.

Jens is a member of the European Parliament’s monetary policy expert panel and a visiting fellow at LSE’s Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx).

His research fields are: Monetary policy, global financial governance, climate and environment-related impact of the financial system, sovereign debt management, the history of the EMU, and democratic and constitutional theory of central banking.
